The Program Leader (Summer Student) will report to the Program Supervisor at the Community After School Program (CASP) and will create a fun and loving environment for children aged 5 to 12.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily care, support, and supervision for children aged 5 to 12.
  • Ensure excellent supervision and engagement during all classroom, outdoor, and playground activities.
  • Assess and tailor programs based on the interests, needs, and abilities of the children in the group.
  • Model appropriate problem-solving skills, emotional expression, and social skills.
  • Offer new experiences and a variety of play activities based on children’s interests and needs.
  • Participate in meal and snack duties.
  • Maintain all Centre protocols, identify and mitigate risks and hazards, and demonstrate best practices in childcare support and safety to create a healthy and safe environment.
  • Communicate regularly with the program supervisor and families throughout the day, during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education: Level 1, 2, or 3, or Bachelor of Education/equivalent.
  • A minimum of Level 1 Early Childhood Educator certification is required.
  • Knowledge of Child Care programs.
  • A genuine love for working with children and providing exceptional care.
  • Must have a cheerful disposition, be amiable, and be a team player.
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • A passion for working with children and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully at all levels.
  • Flexible, creative, and willing to learn.
  • Professional and proficient in oral and written communication.
  • Working environment includes both indoor and outdoor activities, requiring standing and bending.

Selected candidates will be required to provide:

  • A clear Police Security Check and Vulnerability Check (valid within the last 6 months).
  • A clear Child Intervention Check.
  • Current Child Care First Aid and CPR certification.

CANADA SUMMER JOBS REQUIREMENTS:

Age: Must be between 18 and 30 years at the start of employment.

Citizenship: Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person who has been granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment.

Employment Eligibility: Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada according to relevant provincial or territorial legislation. International students are not eligible.

 

Job Type: Temporary Full Time (35 hours per week)

Contract Length: 8 weeks 

Pay:  $17.00 per hour
