Summary of Responsibility Areas:

This individual will be a part-time employee at Grace Baptist Church to in a variety of facility and building management areas.

The focus of the Grace Baptist Church (GBC) Custodian role is to provide a safe, secure and sanitary environment for the ministries of GBC through the caring and good stewardship of facilities and equipment, and in a Christ-like manner to care for and assist all guests and staff who enter our facilities.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • General cleaning duties including: dusting, cleaning, floor care, vacuuming and cleaning of carpets, cleaning restrooms and restocking paper and soap supplies, emptying trash and recycling receptacles.
  • General outside duties including: snow removal, grounds keeping beautification and cleanliness, and outside repairs and assistance where needed.
  • Provide basic security by controlling building access by knowing who is supposed to be in the building and what rooms they should have access to.
  • Deal in a Christ-like manner with problem people who enter the building.
  • Set-up or take down furniture and equipment as bookings require.
  • Fix small maintenance problems or assist in repair of larger issues.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining inventory.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Building lock up and setting of alarms.

Position Qualifications

  • Understands and appreciates how meticulous caring of facilities contributes to ministry effectiveness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven communications ability and a track record as a team player.
  • Must be a team player that is able to work unsupervised and multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • To have an ability to work well in a multi-staff setting.
  • A desire to work closely with staff in order to assist in the completion of tasks.
  • An ability to investigate and gather relevant information.
  • To be highly organized, an initiator, and can multi task – due to interruptions.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and follow instructions issued in English
  • Ability to deal with diversity and change on an ongoing basis.
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work: heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.  Physical work is primary part (more than 70%) of the role.
  • Work environment involves daily tasks, process & structure. Attention and understanding of basic safety standards and procedures.
